Long life expectancy often depends on the lifestyle one adopts. Eating the right kinds of foods, exercising, and avoiding smoking and drinking excessively will all help ensure a long and healthy life. There are a few other methods and tips that one can include in their daily life to help you increase your longevity.
Reduce the risk of diabetes
In a study published in Diabetes Care, vinegar for improving insulin sensitivity to a high-carbohydrate meal in subjects with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes was studied.
The study found that vinegar can significantly improve postprandial insulin sensitivity in insulin resistant subjects.
Acetic acid has been shown to suppress disaccharidase activity and increase glucose-phosphate concentrations in skeletal muscle; thus, vinegar may have physiological effects similar to acarbose or metformin.
The study concluded that vinegar was shown to improve insulin sensitivity during a high-carbohydrate meal by 19-34% and significantly reduce blood sugar and insulin responses.

Reduces the risk of cholesterol and heart disease
In a study published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar and how it can lower cholesterol in rats was analyzed.
The study used rats to see the potential abilities of vinegar to lower cholesterol and therefore reduce the risk of heart attack and heart disease.
The acetic acid-fed group showed significantly lower values for serum total cholesterol and triacylglycerols after the study.
“In conclusion, dietary acetic acid reduces serum total cholesterol and triacylglycerol: firstly due to inhibition of lipogenesis in the liver; second because of the increased fecal excretion of bile acids in rats fed a diet containing cholesterol, ”the study said.
Helps to lose weight
When it comes to weight loss, several human studies have shown that vinegar can increase feelings of fullness.
Feeling full can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight.
One study found that taking vinegar with a high-carb meal increased feelings of fullness, leading participants to eat 200 to 275 calories less throughout the day.
Another study of 175 obese people found that consuming apple cider vinegar daily resulted in reduced belly fat and weight loss.
Apple cider vinegar has been shown to have a variety of healthy properties, including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects.
What’s more, evidence suggests that it may offer health benefits, such as aiding weight loss, lowering cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels, and improving symptoms of diabetes.
Health experts recommend having one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar – mixed with water or made into a tonic or added to a salad dressing daily for these benefits.
