How to live longer: add blueberries, kale, avocados and seeds to increase your longevity

Rich in anthocyanins and pterostilbene, blueberries are emerging as an essential component of a science-based longevity program.

Blueberries contain specific flavonoid molecules that fight DNA damage and slow down age-related damage to brain cells.

By studying the longevity benefits of various compounds, scientists often use fruit flies as a laboratory model of aging, Life Extension said.

The health site continued, “What the researchers found is that fruit flies live 10 percent longer when fed a regular diet containing blueberry extract.

“Not only do fruit flies live longer, they also show better levels of physical activity.

“These improvements are the result of both increased tolerance to oxidative stress and beneficial changes in the way certain important genes are expressed.”
